Emerging Voices in Independent Journalism Panel -Onlin

  • Date: 05/28/2021 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Over the past decade, in the face of declining circulations, the content at many corporate media outlets has become more general and homogenous as owners have sought to cut costs and increase profits.

However, shortly after this negative trend began, a positive, counter-trend materialized: The rise of smaller, independent news and culture media platforms re-focused on local issues and concerns, with contributions from younger journalists dedicated to their craft and the cities they call home.
Join us for a lively conversation with four of these emerging, independent journalists, with a special focus on their unique takes on Los Angeles food, culture, and politics—and the throughways that unite them.
Panelists:
Cesar Hernandez
Janette Villafana
Gabriel Chabran
Cynthia Blas Rebolledo
Moderator:
Dr. Melissa M. Hidalgo
